The Story

The Ideal Series pays homage to the stunning artwork of renowned equine artist Orren Mixer (1920-2008) and his most popular subjects horses! Each hand-painted piece in this series was inspired by one of Mixers famed ideal horse breed paintings.

Pintos - horses with large white patches on their coats - can be found in a variety of breeds, and the Pinto Horse Association of America has registered over 160,000 since its incorporation in 1956. The painting Pinto was commissioned by the PtHA from Mixer in the year 2000 and showcases the variety of breed types and disciplines pinto horses can be found in. This model takes inspiration from the stately bay pinto American Saddlebred found on the right hand side of the painting.
